Ontario EV Charger Rebates & Incentives 2025: The Complete Guide

Every EV charger rebate and incentive available to Ontario homeowners in 2025 — federal programs, utility rebates, and how to stack them for maximum savings.

Installing a home EV charger in Ontario in 2025? There's meaningful money available through federal programs and local utility incentives — but navigating it all can be confusing.

Here's every rebate currently available, what you actually qualify for, and how to stack them.

Federal Programs

iMHZEV Program (Natural Resources Canada)

The Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles program offers up to $1,000 toward a Level 2 home charger for eligible Canadians.

Who qualifies:

  • You purchased or leased a new eligible zero-emission vehicle after December 1, 2023
  • The charger is installed at your primary residence
  • The charger meets NRCan technical specifications (most name-brand Level 2 units do)

How to claim: Your charger installer submits the paperwork directly to NRCan after installation. You don't have to deal with government forms yourself — we handle this as part of every installation.

Max rebate: $1,000 (covering 50% of eligible charging equipment costs up to $2,000 total spend)

Canada Greener Homes Loan

The Canada Greener Homes Loan provides interest-free financing for home energy efficiency upgrades — including EV charger installation — up to $40,000 with a 10-year repayment term.

This isn't free money, but 0% interest on a multi-year loan is genuinely valuable. If you're bundling a panel upgrade with charger installation, this loan can cover the full cost.

Requirements include a pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation. Ask us about how to sequence this with your charger installation.

Ontario Utility Programs

Hydro One EV Incentive Program

Hydro One customers may qualify for a $500 rebate on qualifying Level 2 smart chargers that participate in their demand response program.

Conditions:

  • Charger must be a "smart" unit with load management capability
  • You agree to allow Hydro One to reduce charging speed during peak grid demand (typically a few hours per year)
  • Charger must be registered with the Hydro One program before installation

This is low-friction. The charger does its thing; Hydro One occasionally dials it back by a small amount during peak events. In exchange, you get $500 off.

Toronto Hydro Green Bundle

Toronto Hydro customers (City of Toronto proper) can access the Green Bundle which provides:

  • $250 rebate on a qualifying smart EV charger
  • Free Time-of-Use Rate enrollment (overnight charging at a reduced rate)
  • Energy coaching consultation

Not as rich as the Hydro One program, but stackable with federal incentives.

Alectra Utilities / Enbridge Gas

If you're in Brampton, Mississauga, Markham, or Vaughan and served by Alectra or Enbridge, check their current rebate portals — programs change quarterly. Typical offerings include $200–$400 on smart chargers or demand management devices.

Ontario Tax Credits

Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit

If you operate a business from home and the EV is used for business purposes, the charger installation may qualify as a capital expense eligible for CCA (Capital Cost Allowance) at an accelerated rate.

Talk to your accountant — this isn't a consumer rebate but it's real money for the self-employed.

Stacking Example: Maximum Savings

Here's what a GTA homeowner buying a new EV in 2025 could realistically claim:

| Program | Amount | |---|---| | iMHZEV Federal Rebate | $1,000 | | Hydro One Smart Charger Rebate | $500 | | Canada Greener Homes Loan (interest saved over 5 yrs) | ~$200 equivalent | | Total benefit | ~$1,700 |

On a typical installation cost of $1,200–$1,600, that's real money — potentially covering the full installation cost.
